Hello, world wide web. It’s only fitting to introduce one’s self with the creation of a website like this. My name is Jessica Shumaker and I am the GlimmerGlass editor for the 2008-2009 school year. I’ve created this site to see if it is possible to move our newspaper’s online presence, like many other schools these days, to WordPress. I’m taking a cue from Sean Blanda, a student journalist at Temple University. He wrote about his paper’s move from College Publishers here. The final result can be found here.
In order to fully move to WP, there are a few hoops we’d have to jump through, but I think it is worth looking into. I can already see the huge opportunity for our on-campus media. It would better train student journalists (and serve the Olivet community) if we were able to produce quality video and audio content. Here is our current site.
We learn video and audio in Online Journalism, play with these ideas with DreamWeaver on the school’s server, but why stop there?
